The search for a diver, missing off the coast of Cork, has been called off for the night.

The man in his fifties was diving with two other people about 12 miles south of Baltimore, when he failed to return to the surface.

The search operation involves the Valentia Coastguard, the Navy, the Coastguard's Shannon-based helicopter and local lifeboats.

The Navy's LE Ciara will remain at the scene overnight.

Efforts to find the German man will resume at daybreak.
