'Involuntarily retired' Dunlop to resume testimony in corruption trial

Former lobbyist Frank Dunlop is to resume giving evidence in a corruption trial this morning.

The 65-year-old has already testified that he made payments to politicians on behalf of businessman Jim Kennedy in the 1990s in exchange for votes to rezone land in Dublin.

The former lobbyist described himself in court as "involuntarily retired".

Frank Dunlop claims he was offered money by businessman Jim Kennedy to pay Dublin councillors to vote in favour of rezoning agricultural lands in Carrickmines in the 1990s.

Asked by the prosecution how the money was paid to politicians he replied: "I don’t mean to be facetious but there was only one currency - cash".

His evidence is to resume later this morning.

The accused businessman, 66-year-old Jim Kennedy who is now living in Queens Quay, Gibraltar, denies 16 counts of making corrupt payments.
