Afghan border police have found at least four bodies at the scene of a civilian helicopter crash in the eastern Afghan mountains, a senior police official said today.

The Russian-made civilian Mi-8 helicopter, operated by a logistics firm, Tryco, crashed between 22 and 25 miles north-east of Khost city yesterday, with 12 people on board.

It was not immediately clear if there could have been any survivors. In Kabul, General Abdul Rahman, deputy chief of Afghan border police, said police reached the scene yesterday afternoon and found at least four bodies.

A US-led coalition quick-reaction team was also hiking to the crash site.
