The ESB is reportedly facing fines of up to €12m if it fails to improve the performance of its power stations.

The ESB is reportedly facing fines of up to €12m if it fails to improve the performance of its power stations.

Reports this morning said the energy regulator, Tom Reeves, was planning to introduce fines in an effort to force the company to improve power station performance.

The reports said only 76% of power stations were currently available to generate electricity at any one time, but Mr Reeves wanted the ESB to increase this figure to between 83% and 85%.

Under the regulator’s plan, the company would be fined if it failed to do this, but would be rewarded if it exceeded the target.
