Even by Hollywood’s standards the goody bags being given to the stars at this year’s Emmy Awards could be seen as over the top.

Celebrities who are presenting awards will be showered with gifts worth up to €29,000.

A mobile phone package, DVD player, exclusive gym membership, spa breaks and a year’s supply of chocolates and cosmetics are all being offered, organisers said.

There were even rumours that a certificate for costly laser eye surgery is among the enticements.

Ninety of Hollywood’s top names are in line for the gifts, described by show bosses as a “generous thank you”.

The 55th Emmy Awards will be held on Sunday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and will play host to some of the biggest names in show business.

As last year, many celebrities, including Friends star Jennifer Aniston and Sopranos actress Edie Falco, will donate their outfits for a charity auction.

Last year, Aniston’s dress raised more than €43,200.

Her co-stars Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer are rumoured to be presenting one of the awards together.

The battle of the night will be for the most outstanding drama series.

White House drama The West Wing, which has taken the prize for three years, faces competition from The Sopranos and Six Feet Under.
