Pakistan’s president, General Pervez Musharraf, said today that he had assurances the military strikes against Afghanistan "will be short".
The premier told a press briefing that his country had been asked to provide help in areas of intelligence, airspace and logistical support and had done so.
"I’ve got definite assurances that this operation will be short. It ought to be targeted and it should not have collateral damage," he added.
Displaying Pakistan’s concern over the role of the opposition Northern Alliance in Afghanistan, the president said he had already conveyed a message to President Bush and Tony Blair that "the Northern Alliance must not draw mileage out of this action".
