The trial of a Co Wexford man for murdering another man in the county collapsed today at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.
Michael Furlong (aged 36) of Meadowfield, The Moyne, Enniscorthy had pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Patrick Connors (aged 37) between April 28 and April 29, 2011, at apartments known as Carraig Túr in Enniscorthy.
Today, Mr Justice Barry White told the jury of seven men and five woman that “certain concerns” had arisen relating to Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jabbar’s opinion as to the “mechanism of death” in the case.
“In the light of these concerns it would not be appropriate to let the matter continue before you,” he added.
Mr Justice White discharged the jury and thanked them for their service and he discharged them from further jury service for a further 10 years.
The trial of Mr Furlong started on November 5.
