Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers have said Afghan civilians are destroying humanitarian food supplies air dropped the US military in conjunction with missile attacks on the country’s main cities.

Abdul Hanan Himat, a spokesman for the Taliban Information Ministry, said people in the eastern provinces of Paktia and Khost are destroying the food in protest at the continuing American attacks on their homeland.

The US plans to drop two million one-day rations over Afghanistan to show that its attacks are not targeting civilians.

However, aid agencies have said the move is a mere PR stunt because an estimated eight million Afghans would need one of those rations every day to survive the upcoming winter.
