Another senior official has resigned from Anglo Irish Bank.

William McAteer, the bank's finance director and chief risk officer, is the fourth top official to quit in recent weeks.

The company's chairman, chief executive and a non-executive director quit last month amid controversy over inappropriate loans to directors.

In a statement this afternoon, Anglo Irish Bank said it would now be splitting the roles of finance director and chief risk officer.

Chief financial officer Matt Moran has taken offer as finance director designate and a formal process is underway to fill the second role.
