That is a stark reminder of the trauma suffered by our two-year-old son when he was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease in 1986.

God only knows how he survived.

In 2004, we were shocked to be told that our son, then a 20-year-old, had a recurrence of Kawasaki.

Thankfully, with the support of our doctors in Beaumont Hospital, the effects were limited and again he recovered.

Assuredly, but for the intervention of the doctors in Crumlin and Harcourt Street hospitals, our youngest son would have died in 1986.

Parents should follow the advice of medical professionals and not delay in bringing to hospital children with injuries or illness that require an emergency assessment, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
