Down led by 2-7 to 0-2 after 12 minutes thanks to goals from Gareth Johnson and Ciaran Coulter but Derry clawed back to leave the half-time deficit at 2-11 to 0-9.

Two Ruairi Convery goals were the difference in the second half.

A second goal from Johnson in the 69th-minute gave the visitors a late lead but Convery's second major saw Derry prevail.
