Former Sotheby’s chief executive Diana ‘‘DeDe’’ Brooks was today sentenced to six months home detention for her role in a price-fixing scheme.
She also was ordered to pay a €287,000 fine and serve 1,000 hours of community service.
Brooks, the first woman to head a major auction house and one of the most powerful figures in the art world in the past decade, admitted fixing commission prices and fees with rival Christie’s.
Brooks’ sentencing in Manhattan comes a week after former Sotheby’s Chairman Alfred Taubman was jailed for a year and fined €8.06m for his part in the scam.
The scheme by top management meant that antique dealers and others selling personal belongings paid inflated commissions for nearly a decade.
