The waiting will be over tonight for ITV’s Survivor contestants when the overall winner of the game show will be revealed.
It will be either Charlotte Hobrough, the 25-year-old policewoman from south Wales, or Jackie Carey, the 31-year-old airline buyer from Surrey, who will be crowned champion of the reality game show.
Survivor was launched in May when 16 contestants were marooned on the South China Sea island of Pulua Tiga.
As part of two tribes they competed against each other, evicting one member of the weakest tribe every few days.
Eventually both tribes merged and the battles became more personal with contestants scheming and forming alliances in a desperate bid to remain on the island.
With the added trials of hunger, extreme weather and exhausting challenges, the contestants were often at each other’s throats.
Eventually the 16 were whittled down to two and it was girl power that proved superior with Charlotte and Jackie winning through to battle it out for the £1 million jackpot.
Nigel Lythgoe, the executive producer of the show, is the only person who knows the identity of the winner.
A jury made up of former contestants voted on who they wanted to win the the £1 million before they left the island and those votes were then sealed in a metal briefcase and flown back from the island to Britain.
Both girls have said they will return to their jobs whatever the outcome of tonight’s final.
Tonight’s show will be hosted by ITN reporter Mark Austin and will follow Charlotte and Jackie’s last 24 hours on the island.
The two-hour show begins at 8pm on ITV.
