Fergie keen to recruit Robben

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he is keen to sign PSV Eindhoven striker Arjen Robben.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he is keen to sign PSV Eindhoven striker Arjen Robben.

The 19-year-old was shown around Old Trafford on Friday and Ferguson has admitted that talks have begun with his Dutch club.

Ferguson told The Mail on Sunday: “We are interested in him. Nothing’s been finalised but we hope to do business with PSV.”

Real Madrid are also reportedly lining up a bid for Robben but the youngster’s mother, Marjo, has all but ruled out a move to Spain.

She told the Sunday Mirror: “The things he thinks about when he has to make the final decision on his new club is who is the manager, how does he work with the players, will he have a chance to compete with the current players in the squad and what is the club culture like.

“Those things mean more to my son than any kind of money. Look at Real Madrid. What would be the point of signing for them?

“He would arrive in a squad full of big names and big stars, where the president swaps his top names every summer like second hand cars.

“Every year he brings in more and more big name players. That does not appeal to us.”
