Wayne Levi finished his second round with a flourish to grab a share of the lead at the FedEx Kinko's Classic in Texas.
Levi, who has not won a tournament since last October, eagled the penultimate hole then birdied the 18th as he went round in 67.
He shares the lead with Jim Thorpe, with the pair both six under par for the tournament with a round left.
Levi, who has six top-six finishes this season, recently came close to victory. Last week he was tied for second at the Toshiba Senior Classic, and he finished joint-third at the Liberty Mutual two weeks ago.
A winner of 12 events on the PGA Tour and a two-time winner on the Champions Tour, Levi finished on 138 through 36 holes, but faces stiff competition from Thorpe.
After shooting a 69 in the opening round, Thorpe birdied the final two holes in his second round.
Thorpe is coming off his best performance of the year, a fifth-place finish at Liberty Mutual. His last win came at the Commerce Long Island Classic in 2004.
Bruce Fleisher is one shot back, and Brad Bryant, Mark James and Dana Quigley are two shots off the pace.
Defending champion Larry Nelson is one under and Hale Irwin, who won the inaugural event in 2003, is 10 shots behind the leader.
Austin-resident Tom Kite rebounded from an opening-round 76 to shoot two under.
