Malbranque rejected a new contract at Craven Cottage and although he was linked with Bolton, Newcastle and West Ham during the summer, he has now opted to head for north London.

The midfielder is expected to undergo a groin operation at some stage but Spurs will endeavour to postpone the surgery for as long as possible.

Routledge will spend his second successive season away from White Hart Lane.

The former Crystal Palace youngster spent last season with Portsmouth but will now join Fulham until the summer.

Routledge has failed to break into Tottenham’s side after collecting an injury at the start of last season.

It allowed England winger Aaron Lennon to seize his chance and the 19-year-old has never looked back.

Routledge, who spent last season on loan with Portsmouth, now hopes he can put his career back on track at Craven Cottage.

Routledge said: “Obviously it was a blow for me to get injured as soon as I joined Spurs and it’s been frustrating since regaining fitness to not be able to break back into the team.

“This is a great opportunity to get back into first-team football, and especially as it is with a club whose footballing style I have always liked. So I’m happy and confident that I will enjoy my time here and look forward to training with the lads later this week.”

The 21-year-old joined Spurs from Crystal Palace in July 2005 but unfortunately suffered a broken foot on the opening day of the 2005-06 season at Portsmouth.

During his time at Palace he made more than 100 appearances in all competitions including 83 league starts as well as representing England at U17 and U21 levels.

Fulham boss Chris Coleman said: “I have admired Wayne since he was a youngster at Palace and always thought he had a lot of talent.

“I am glad that we have been able to get him on loan as we needed a quick right-sided player to add another dimension to the squad, and Wayne will be hungry to get back into action after he was sidelined at Spurs after his injury, so I’m delighted he’ll be joining us.”
