Fulham‘s new Czech goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny is set to undergo minor knee surgery on an injury sustained during the pre-season trip to the USA.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper is expected to miss anywhere between three and six weeks, and that could land Fulha with a goalkeeping crisis after Mark Crossley also picked up a knock in the US.
Crossley was hurt in Fulham‘s 4-1 loss to an MLS All-Star team, forcing Drobny - already carrying the injury – to complete the game in goal – he conceded three of the goals.
“The knee started to get swollen and they examined it in America,” Drobny told the Czech Daily Post.
“I will learn the precise diagnosis after the surgery. I will be out at least three weeks, six at the most. It is a great pity as it looked like I could be involved at the start of the season.
“But I cannot do anything else, I must recover as soon as possible and fight for the number one shirt again.”
Of the decision to go on in place of Crossley when he was already carrying the injury, Drobny joked: “What else could I have done? I went in and kept standing on one leg.”
The former Czech Under-21 international added that he did not believe Crossley‘s injury to be serious, but revealed that Fulham are likely to make a move in the transfermarket to see cover.
“Fulham will start looking for a goalkeeper, but I think it will be someone on loan,” he said.
