The young girl who was hit by a train in Co Tipperary last night is in a stable condition in hospital today, it has emerged this morning.
Three separate investigations are continuing after the child, who is understood to be around eight years old, made her way onto the track near Tipperary town and was hit by a train which was travelling from Limerick Junction to Waterford.
Spokesperson for Irish Rail, Jane Cregan, said that efforts are underway to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
"Well if there's any incident such as this, Iarnród Éireann would always notify the Rail Accident Investigation Unit, who would go to the scene, as they did last night," she said.
"The gardaí would also be informed. Our own safety department in Iarnród Éireann are also launching an investigation this morning."
