Gonzalo Jara has returned to West Brom after an extended break following World Cup duty and is set to play in the weekend friendly with Osasuna.

Jara played a major role in Chile reaching the second round in South Africa after recovering from a broken metatarsal suffered in February.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Baggies 12 months ago from Coco-Colo for £1.4million, missed the start of pre-season to recuperate.

But the midfielder-defender is looking to impress at the weekend and push for a place in the opening Barclays Premier League clash with Chelsea.

Albion boss Roberto Di Matteo confirmed: “Gonzalo will be involved in some capacity on Saturday.

“We will assess his condition for the rest of the week before deciding how much he will be involved.

“But he is a quality player and I’m looking forward to seeing him progress in the Premier League.”

Di Matteo insisted places are still up for grabs at Stamford Bridge in 10 days’ time.

He said: “I still haven’t made my mind up about the opening game at Chelsea so I will be looking at a few options this weekend.”
