Armed gardaí arrest man following Dublin stand-off

A man in his 50s is in custody today following a stand-off with gardaí in north Dublin.

A man in his 50s is in custody today following a stand-off with gardaí in north Dublin.

He barricaded himself into a house on the Ratoath Road in Cabra last night after an altercation in the area.

Gardaí sealed off local roads and a garda negotiator was called to the scene.

Armed members of the Emergency Response Unit entered the building after 9pm and arrested the man.

He is being detained at Store Street garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be held for 72 hours without charge.

Gardaí are continuing to search the building where the stand-off took place.
