A number of flights between Ireland and Britain have been cancelled this morning as a result of heavy overnight snowfall across the UK.

Several British airports have been forced to temporarily close their runways due to the adverse conditions.

The disruption is affecting several flights from Ireland and passengers are being advised to contact their airline for information.

Meanwhile, motorists are being urged to drive carefully on roads throughout Ireland today due to freezing conditions nationwide.

Ulster, Connacht, north Munster and much of Leinster experienced snow last night, while spells of rain and sleet are expected to continue throughout the morning.

The Road Safety Authority says motorists should exercise extra caution due to the difficulty of driving on icy roads.
