The FTSE 100 Index looks on course for a sixth straight session in the red.
With war nerves continuing to hamper progress, the Footsie was 13.6 points lower at 3422.4 by mid-morning.
Insurance companies have been at the heart of the recent decline, and again pulled the market lower with Friends Provident down 0.75p at 71.5p and Royal & Sun Alliance 0.5p cheaper at 58p.
Media firms were also under pressure as Reed Elsevier fell 28p to 403p, Daily Mail & General Trust slipped 15p to 419p and BSkyB eased 15.5p to 582.5p.
