Walsh gets Deise Chance

Fourmilewater clubman Shane Walsh will make his first competitive start for Waterford this Sunday as the Deise clash with their Munster rivals Cork in NHL Division 1A (Walsh Park, throw-in 2.30pm).

Fourmilewater clubman Shane Walsh will make his first competitive start for Waterford this Sunday as the Deise clash with their Munster rivals Cork in NHL Division 1A (Walsh Park, throw-in 2.30pm).

Walsh has been a member of the Waterford senior panel since 2005 but he failed to feature last season - the 24-year-old comes in to replace John Mullane (broken finger) at right corner forward this weekend.

That is the only change in personnel Justin McCarthy has made to the side that impressively beat Wexford 1-23 to 1-12 two weeks ago.

Waterford have had the edge on Cork in two of their recent league meetings - they beat the Rebels by a point in 2004 and four points last year.

The fact that former Waterford manager Gerald McCarthy is now in charge of his native Cork, while Justin McCarthy, the former Cork coach, is in his sixth season with Waterford adds an extra dimension to next Sunday's duel.

WATERFORD (NHL v Cork) - C Hennessy; D Prendergast, T Feeney, A Kearney; D Coffey, K McGrath, J Kennedy; M Walsh, E Kelly; D Shanahan, K Moran, S Molumphy; S Walsh, S Prendergast, E McGrath.
