Relatives of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane are today marking the 15th anniversary of his murder by loyalist paramilitaries.
Mr Finucane was shot dead in front of his wife and children at his home in Belfast on February 12, 1989.
A report by Metropolitan Police Commissioner John Stevens has found evidence that the British army’s Force Research Unit helped the loyalists who carried out the murder.
The Finucane family are using the anniversary of his death to renew their call for a public inquiry into the killing.
Retired Canadian judge Peter Cory recommended that such an inquiry be established in a report delivered to the British government late last year.
To mark the occasion, the SDLP is to hold a demonstration on the steps of Stormont today to protest at how the British government is treating the family of Pat Finucane.
Last month, Mr Finucane’s widow, Geraldine, took legal action in an attempt to force London to publish the Cory Report into the murder, which recommended that a public inquiry be established.
The SDLP will today launch a petition urging the British government to publish the report and set up a public inquiry as a matter of urgency.
