A 31-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash late last night – the sixth person to die on the roads over the weekend.
Gardaí said the accident happened in Powerstown, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, at 10.40pm and the man died at the scene. No other vehicle was involved.
The man was the fourth motorcyclist killed on the roads since Friday.
On Sunday, a man in his 20s died when his motorbike crashed into a tractor on the Listowel to Abbeyfeale road in Co Kerry.
A charity motorbike ride, the annual Across Ireland Motorcycle Run for the Make A Wish Foundation, was hit by tragedy on Saturday afternoon when two bikes collided at Clonaglin, Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath.
A 35-year-old Polish national died in the accident while the second rider was injured, although not seriously.
A 24-year-old motorcyclist lost his life late on Friday night after a crash on the R417 at Stramillian, Monasterevin, Co Kildare, at around 10.45pm.
Elsewhere, a 23-year-old woman was killed when she lost control of the car she was driving and crashed at Kilmacomma, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, at around 3.45am on Sunday.
Another woman died on Saturday night after she was knocked down by a car at Summerhill, Tramore.
