Cork football star Philip Clifford made a timely return to the county first team in a challenge game against Meath ahead of next weekend's back door clash with Clare.

Clifford, who was part of the Cork team that reached the 1999 All-Ireland final, made a welcome return after a cartilage problem though Cork still lost by two points in Nenagh.

There was good news for Meath with the performance of former AllStar Ollie Murphy who notched up two points and lasted for an hour.
