EU starts payments for Palestinians through aid plan

The European Commission today said it had started delivering aid to Palestinian hospitals through an internationally-backed plan that bypasses the Hamas-led government.

The European Commission today said it had started delivering aid to Palestinian hospitals through an internationally-backed plan that bypasses the Hamas-led government.

In Brussels, EU spokeswoman Emma Udwin said it was the first time the European Union was using the special aid plan.

The funds are to go toward the purchase of fuel for emergency generators at hospitals, Udwin said.
