The ESB has said it hopes to restore power by early afternoon to over 1,000 households across the country after high winds caused power cuts overnight.

The ESB has said it hopes to restore power by early afternoon to over 1,000 households across the country after high winds caused power cuts overnight.

Almost 300 homes remain without electricity in Waterford - while over 200 households are still blacked out around Inch, Co Kerry.

Further outages have been reported in Athlone, Bundoran, Wicklow and Cork city.
