Officials are still trying to count the bodies of Taliban fighters who were reportedly killed yesterday in a prison riot in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif.
US warplanes are still circling overhead today in case trouble flares again.
The prisoners were killed after the US bombed the fortress where they were being held on the outskirts of the city.
During the riot, about 300 Chechens, Pakistanis and Arabs who surrendered yesterday in Kunduz seized weapons and tried to fight their way to freedom.
The Northern Alliance, the de facto government in Afghanistan, said most of the fighters were killed.
A spokesman for the Northern Alliance said the Taliban fighters broke down the doors of the fortress in their attempt to escape and overpowered several guards.
Security men stationed on the walls of the compound fired down at the prisoners before US soldiers called in air strikes and reinforcements, according to the reports.
