Sarah Michelle Gellar has plunged a stake into the heart of Buffy The Vampire Slayer by announcing she is leaving the television series which made her a star in order to concentrate on feature films.
“Buffy in this incarnation is over,” she told Entertainment Weekly magazine.
Her decision to move on means that after seven years the series will finish at the end of the current season. It will wrap up with a five-part story which will see the return of some characters who featured in earlier episodes, including Buffy’s first love, Angel.
But fans of the series need not despair. Buffy’s creator, Joss Whedon tells the magazine he is planning a spin-off that may include some Buffy cast members.
