Police have surrounded a central Moscow square and seized several people who tried to defy authorities and participate in an anti-Kremlin protest organised by chess great Garry Kasparov.
Mr Kasparov’s opposition group Other Russia had vowed to demonstrate and march down Moscow’s main street today despite being denied permission.
Police roughly grabbed protesters who tried to enter the square, which was cordoned off by metal barriers and police trucks.
Police dragged about 15 people into a waiting truck, some of them members of a pro-Kremlin youth group that also staged a demonstration.
