LRC submits new plan for talks on postal dispute

The Labour Relations Commission has put forward new proposals aimed at bringing an end to the ongoing dispute between An Post and the Communications Workers Union.

The Labour Relations Commission has put forward new proposals aimed at bringing an end to the ongoing dispute between An Post and the Communications Workers Union.

The proposals, which were delivered to both sides last night, recommend that the hundreds of staff suspended by the company be reinstated before talks begin and that the status quo at the Dublin mail centre prior to the suspensions be restored.

The plan also calls for speedy and comprehensive negotiations on all the issues in the dispute and on a recovery plan for An Post. The company is losing hundreds of thousands of euro weekly.

An Post managers met to study the proposals last night, while the CWU national executive is due to consider them at a meeting later today.
