Keane sets sights on Toffees

Robbie Keane will be hoping to add to his tally of four goals in his last two games against Everton when Tottenham visit Goodison Park tomorrow night.

The Republic of Ireland striker grabbed his first Tottenham hat-trick when the Merseysiders were beaten 4-3 at White Hart Lane last season, then followed that up in October when he scored the third in a 3-0 home win.

“If I do score again it will be great,” said Keane. “Everton are not an easy team to play against, they are one of those teams that are always tough and they work hard for each other. They have got strong players in the squad and no way is it going to be an easy game.

“They’re a good side, they’re fighting at the moment just below us and need the points as much as we do. We don’t want to get sucked back into that little battle down the bottom and it’ll be a tough game for us.”

Spurs skipper Jamie Redknapp is set to lead his team despite having 20 stitches in a facial wound last weekend.

Redknapp suffered a badly cut lip following an accidental collision with his cousin Frank Lampard during the game against Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Saturday and needed minor plastic surgery and stitches, but he has trained all week.

Acting boss David Pleat said: “I’m pleased to say that Jamie is alive and kicking and back to his old enthusiastic self. He had a nasty cut and needed a minor operation around his upper lip and although he still feels uncomfortable, he could be okay.”

Spurs are boosted by the return to the squad of Welsh internatonal Simon Davies, but there are doubts over the fitness of Mauricio Taricco (thigh) and Christian Ziege (groin). Pleat will be wary of the fact that tomorrow’s match is followed by the visit of Manchester City to White Hart Lane just three days later.

“We’ve one or two players who haven’t been training, one or two that needed a break and one or two with knocks as well but we’ll wait before we make any announcements on the side,” said Pleat.

“Mauricio isn’t looking too bad and Christian has been to see his surgeon but I’m not ruling either of them out.

“It is possible that if we believed two major players weren’t going to make it into the squad or the starting line-up for Goodison then we would leave them here for a couple of days training before putting them into the frame on Monday.”
