Gardaí are trying to trace the movements of a vehicle which they believe may have been used in a shooting in Tallaght overnight, in which a teenage girl died.
The black SUV with an 07-D registration plate was found in the Citywest area shortly before midnight.
Gardaí want to detail the vehicle's movements between 10pm last night and the time when it was found. They are appealing for anyone who may have seen it to contact them.
The shooting happened at about 10.35pm last night when a group of people was sitting in a car outside a house on Brookview Way in Tallaght.
A number of shots were fired from a passing vehicle into the car.
A 16-year-old young girl - named locally as Melanie McCarthy, but also known by the surname McNamara - sustained head injuries and was rushed into Tallaght Hospital where she later died.
One neighbour said a black jeep and a silver car were involved. He said he "heard a big bang…Then I heard there was a girl in hospital."
Another man said: "A couple of us were saying it's only a matter of time before there's a shooting in this estate, with all the carry-on going on. You wouldn't say too much about it in case you'd be a target yourself."
The scene has been sealed off for a full technical examination.
An incident room has been set up a Tallaght garda station and Gardai are appealing for witnesses.
