Tax troubles for Coyle's LA bar

Nadine Coyle’s family’s bar is believed to be operating illegally.

Nadine Coyle’s family’s bar is believed to be operating illegally.

The Girls Aloud singer’s father Niall – who runs Nadine’s Irish Mist on Sunset Beach – has reportedly continued trading at the Los Angeles nightspot despite having their business licence suspended after failing to file a Statement of Information in June last year – something required by Californian law.

A spokeswoman for the Secretary of State’s office revealed the last documentation was filed in 2007.

She said: “It means they are not legally able to do business in California.”

In addition, Niall is believed to owe Orange County tax officials $40,451 (€31,406) in unpaid property tax, a figure which is increasing by 1.5% a month.

The bar has also been fined $844.60 (€655.74) for failing to file appropriate documents when the bar was transferred into his name.

An official from the tax office said: “Mr. Coyle has the option to make payment in instalments if he cannot pay the amount in full straight away. But this is a significant amount of money and he should take action to star paying it off now before he falls further behind and gets into serious trouble.”

However, contacted for his opinion, he told the Daily Mail newspaper: “I have nothing to say.”

Nadine also refused to add any comment.

Her spokesperson said: “She doesn’t want to go into specifics about her business interests.”
