Third count yields no more candidates in Laois/Offaly

The third count in Laois/Offaly has done little to change the contest in the five-seat constituency.

The third count in Laois/Offaly has done little to change the contest in the five-seat constituency.

It followed the elimination of Colm Callanan (CSP), David Whelan (Lab) and independents Joe McCormack and Noel O’Gara.

Sean Fleming of Fianna Fáil is still looking assured but just 84 votes separate his party colleagues John Moloney and John Foley.

Fine Gael’s Olwyn Enright and Charlie Flanagan will definitely take seats while any hope of Progressive Democrat Tom Parlon retaining his seat disappeared following Cowen’s distribution.

Brian Cowen (FF) 19,102 (Elected)

Sean Fleming (FF) 10,089 +42 = 10,131

Charlie Flanagan (FG) 9,210 + 49 = 9,259

Olwyn Enright (FG) 9,091 + 104 = 9,195

John Moloney (FF) 8,010 + 32 = 8,042

John Foley (FF) 7,924 + 34 = 7,958

Tom Parlon (PD) 4,829 + 38 = 4,867

Brian Stanley (SF) 3,802 + 60 = 3,862

Molly Buckley (FG) 2,196 + 337 = 2,533

Jim O’Brien (Lab) 1,310 + 220 = 1,530

John Bracken (Ind) 1,144 + 60 = 1,204

Maire McKay (Green) 861 + 41 = 902
