Temperatures on way up; rain and wind on way
Temperatures are set to rise across the country today as wintry showers die out.
Frozen conditions meant motorists faced hazardous road journeys this morning and many schools have had to close.
The AA is still advising motorists to take extra care on the roads this morning, as slush and ice linger in parts.
Spokesman Conor Faughnan said the AA warning applied even in areas where roads had been gritted.
"It doesn’t automatically render that road safe," he said. "Even on motorways, we have some reports this morning of very tereacherous conditions. It's a bad morning - probably the most dangerous of the year."
Meanwhile, Irish Rail is warning passengers of severe disruption across all services this morning.
All Inter-City services out of Dublin’s Heuston Station are running at delays of up to 60 minutes because of a mechanical fault at Newbridge - while services between Ennis and Athenry were suspended earlier because of snow and ice. That service has reopened now, but is experiencing delays.

As temperatures rise slightly, the chilly weather will be replaced by high winds and heavy rain.
Met Éireann's David Rogers said the fresh alert would be in effect overnight.
"There will be very strong, southerly winds developing this afternoon and veering southwesterly overnight and getting into the orange-level warning which people should be aware of," he said.
"The wind will still be quite strong tomorrow morning for several hours, but there will be a gradual decrease during the day (tomorrow)."
Southerly winds of mean speeds of 65 to 80 km/h with gusts of 110 to 130 km/h will develop this afternoon and will continue through the night, when they will veer west to southwest.

Southerly winds of mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h with gusts of 90 to 110 km/h will develop on Wednesday afternoon and will continue through the night, when they will veer west to southwest.

Heavy showers last night will be followed by heavy rain this afternoon and evening. The rain will start to clear early tonight. Rainfall totals of 25 to 35 mm are expected.
