Port chairman Joe Burke to return to work next week

The Taoiseach's close friend Joe Burke is reportedly set to return to work as chairman of the Dublin Port Company next week.

The Taoiseach's close friend Joe Burke is reportedly set to return to work as chairman of the Dublin Port Company next week.

The 58-year-old fell ill in early January, a day after a young woman alleged that he had sexually assaulted her on New Year's Day.

He has been receiving medical treatment since then, but reports this morning say he is set to resume his duties with the Dublin Port Company on Thursday.

The move comes despite the fact that gardaí say they are still awaiting the all-clear from his medical team before questioning him about the alleged sexual assault.
