SF and Independent TDs return to Dáil after Anglo walk-out

Sinn Féin and Independent TDs are back in the Dáil after staging a walk-out over the Government's refusal to burn former Anglo bondholders.

Sinn Féin and Independent TDs are back in the Dáil after staging a walk-out over the Government's refusal to burn former Anglo bondholders.

This afternoon, €715m has been repaid to unguaranteed bondholders at the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation (formerly Anglo Irish Bank).

The Taoiseach told the Dáil that he tried, but failed, to convince the ECB to allow for the burning of these bondholders. He described the ECB's position on the issue as "trenchant".

Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said the Government was in discussion with the ECB about getting bigger savings from the now all-but-defunct bank.
