Luxembourg celebrates royal wedding

Luxembourg’s Prince Guillaume and Belgian Countess Stephanie de Lannoy have put the finishing touches on their two-day wedding extravaganza with a religious ceremony at the tiny duchy’s Notre Dame Cathedral.

The church wedding drew onlookers lining the streets and royals from around the globe including Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan, royal couples from Sweden and Denmark, and Prince Edward and his wife Sophie.

The couple also had a civil ceremony on Friday at city hall.

Stephanie plans to renounce her Belgian citizenship in order to one day become Luxembourg’s grand duchess.

The tiny country wedged between France, Belgium and Germany is an important financial centre and continues to prosper despite Europe’s economic trouble.
