Who knows tea better than the Irish Mammy? It may be a British ritual but the traditional afternoon tea had been adopted and adapted by us on this side of the water.

Lots of hotels are upping the ante by adding quirky cocktails or Instagrammable pastries to give a twist to the traditional. We pick the most scrumptious and sumptuous of the offerings for Mother’s Day.

The Maryborough Hotel, Cork

Mother’s Day afternoon tea will be served in the Drawing Room at the renovated 18th-century old world mansion.

Priced at €35pp, bookings are being taken at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.

Each mum will get a complimentary glass of prosecco plus a spa voucher for a reduced treatment price on a subsequent visit to the ESPA Spa.

A good excuse to go back for more pampering.

The Brehon, Killarney

Served daily from 2pm this package includes a selection of savoury and sweet treats complemented by a range of speciality teas.
