An explosion in Somalia’s capital has killed at least 20 people, an African Union spokesman said today.

An explosion in Somalia’s capital has killed at least 20 people, an African Union spokesman said today.

Maj. Barigye Bahoku said the blast took place in Mogadishu’s main Bakara market near a mosque.

Islamic insurgents control much of Mogadishu and have been trying to topple the fragile government for three years. Somalia has not had an effective government for nearly 20 years.
