John Arne Riise’s brother has revealed the Liverpool defender was so disappointed by his own goal against Chelsea he did not even want to speak to his family.

The Reds have an uphill task to reach the Champions League final after the Norwegian headed into his own net in the last minute to hand Chelsea a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the semi-final on Tuesday.

Liverpool have not even managed a goal at Stamford Bridge under Rafael Benitez in eight previous meetings but must score to have a chance of making it to the final in Moscow.

Bjorn Helge Riise, who plays for Norwegian club Lillestrom, said: “I tried getting in contact with John Arne after the game.

“Eventually he sent me back a text message, saying ’I don’t want to speak. I’m so disappointed. Give me a call back in a couple of days and we’ll speak then’.”
