Galway captain returns as Dundalk plan without goalkeeper

Galway United and Dundalk will both be hoping for their first win of the season as they go head-to-head at Oriel Park tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.

Sean Connor’s Galway are looking to put last week’s defeat behind them as they travel east.

And Connor will be delighted to see captain Paul Sinnott return to the squad after serving a suspension for the 3-0 defeat to St Patrick’s Athletic.

Striker Alan Murphy is also included in the matchday squad after recovering from injury.

United boss Connor is under no illusions of the task facing his side tonight.

He said: "The opposition are working off a budget three and a half times that of Galway. Dundalk have two of the best strikers in the league, two of the best centre halves and a quality in the middle of the park.”

The Lilywhites must plan without Peter Cherrie after the keeper was shown a red card against Shamrock Rovers last week. Paul Murphy will start in goal in Cherrie’s absence.

Dundalk boss Ian Foster said: “We have to be patient and our fans have to be patient. It’s nice to get back to the league at home and hopefully we can get off to a good start.”
