22.5 acres for sale near Skibbereen Rowing Club
A 22.5-acre piece of good quality land, 5km west of the town of Skibbereen in West Cork, has just come on the market with locally-based auctioneer Pat Maguire and it has generated a large amount of interest already.
The reasons why this land catches the eye are multiple.
In the first instance, the next-door neighbour just happens to be one of the prime nurseries of Olympic medal-standard rowing talent in Europe — the Skibbereen Rowing Club where the famous O’Donovan brothers and their colleagues learned their sporting trade.
More pointedly, however, this small holding contains some excellent land, in a roughly triangular block with a long stretch of public road on one side, and the River Ilen estuary on the other.
“It’s predominately top-class grazing ground,” says Pat, “even though there would be some marshy ground near the bend in the river.”
On the other side of the farm, there are residences located on the road front as it winds its way south, following the river course downstream towards the Oldcourt Boatyard and beyond towards Baltimore.
It’s a very sheltered piece of ground too, with a lot of mature trees around it. The land would be generally west-facing and gently sloping. It’s a unique piece of ground.
Despite the proximity of residential development, there isn’t any potential for further development along such lines.
The direct river access, however, may hold some potential, where someone looking upon this property as a potential home with a mooring is concerned. But this is still very much an agricultural commodity in the short term, the selling agent stresses.
There are no entitlements with the property, which has mains water and electricity beside it. The agent says it’s currently being used for grazing and silage.
