Dublin man charged with assaulting female careworker

A 26-year-old Dublin man has appeared in court today charged with attacking a mother-of-three.

Paul McMenamy of Donomore Green in Tallaght is charged with assault causing harm to Nicola Murray at a house in Reuben Walk in Rialto last Sunday.

Ms Murray remains on a ventilator fighting for her life in Beaumont Hospital.

The 28-year-old careworker was discovered in her bed with injuries to her head and face by her mother Angela on Sunday afternoon.

Today, dressed in jeans and trainers, Mr McMenamy appeared in court charged with assault causing harm to the mother-of-three.

Sgt Michael O'Brien gave evidence that Mr McMenamy was arrested at Bewleys Hotel on Clonshaugh Road at 2.05am this morning and that he made no reply when charged and cautioned at Kevin Street garda station.

Legal aid has been granted but Judge Patrick Durcan will consider this afternoon whether to grant bail in the face of garda objections.
