An earthquake shook the Chilean capital today, causing people to flee into the streets, but there were no initial reports of damage.
The University of Chile said the quake had a magnitude of 5.7 and took place at 2.22pm local time (1722 GMT). It was centred about 50 miles (84km) from Santiago and 4 miles (6km) from the city of Los Andes.
A magnitude-8.8 quake and tsunami in central Chile in February 2010 killed more than 500 people.
