Fallon set to answer bail in 'race fixing' probe

Champion Flat jockey Kieren Fallon was expected to answer police bail today in connection with allegations of race-fixing.

Champion Flat jockey Kieren Fallon was expected to answer police bail today in connection with allegations of race-fixing.

He is one of 27 people who have been arrested in the ongoing racing corruption investigation.

Those who have been questioned and released on bail include a number of other jockeys.

Fallon, who denies any wrong-doing, was due at a City of London police station.

A City of London Police spokesman said: “One person is due to answer bail today.”

Fallon was in sparkling form at Longchamp last Sunday, landing a scintillating first Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe success on Hurricane Run.

The Irish rider also triumphed on Rumplestiltskin in the Prix Marcel Boussac and steered Horatio Nelson to victory in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.

Fallon, who was arrested in September 2004, has previously said he was questioned about involvement with Miles Rodgers, formerly a director of the Platinum Racing Club syndicate.

Robert Winston, Darren Williams, Fergal Lynch and Paul Bradley were the other jockeys who have been arrested, along with trainers Karl Burke and Alan Berry.

They all deny wrongdoing.

Twenty people are due to answer bail over the next month. Five others have had their bail extended.

Jockey Gyles Parkin has said the case against him has been dropped. Another person has also been released without charge.

During the investigation, more than 130 police officers raided 19 addresses across Suffolk, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Hertfordshire.

The inquiry is examining allegations of fixing involving more than 80 races over two years.
