Stoute plans to visit the big stage

Michael Stoute has captured the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot with some useful types in his time and he sent out another promising youngster in the shape of Visit to plunder this year’s renewal.

Michael Stoute has captured the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot with some useful types in his time and he sent out another promising youngster in the shape of Visit to plunder this year’s renewal.

Russian Rhythm and Enthused are two of the high-profile names Stoute has etched on the roll of honour, and the Prince Khalid Abdullah-owned filly joined her former stablemates with a taking success in the Independent Newspaper-sponsored contest.

The daughter of Oasis Dream, well-supported on the back of her eyecatching Newmarket debut, finished with a full head of steam under Ryan Moore to collar Reel Gift and score by a length and a half as the 100-30 joint-favourite.

Blue Square make her just 14-1 for the Stan James 1000 Guineas, while Totesport go 16-1 and William Hill offer 20s.

Stoute said: “I was very impressed with her and full credit to Prince Khalid’s racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe for pushing us to run her here.

“Ryan and myself were keen to go for a maiden after she got touched off at Newmarket, but Teddy wanted to come here and we thought we would be brave.

“We will see how she comes through this, but I would be looking at the Lowther or the Cheveley Park for her.”

He added: “Russian Rhythm was exceptional but this filly has done nothing wrong and I like her a lot.”

Group Captain was cut to 10-1 by sponsors Totesport for next month’s Ebor after overcoming trouble in running to take the London Clubs International Heritage Handicap.

Roger Charlton’s five-year-old had the door slammed in his face on numerous occasions, but the 15-2 chance got the gap he required when pulled out wide inside the final furlong.

Richard Kingscote then stoked him up and pegged back Mull of Dubai for a head victory.

Charlton said: “He travelled well but got stopped everywhere he went. I thought it was too late when he got out and that he wasn’t going to get there, but thankfully he did.

“We will think about the Ebor now and there is nothing to lose by running him.”

Former international showjumper Peter Grayson sent out the most significant winner of his training career as Stoneacre Lad turned the £70,000 Hong Kong Jockey Club Sprint into a procession.

The 66-1 shot was well in command from over two furlongs out in the fiercely-competitive dash and still had two and a half lengths in hand over Hoh Hoh Hoh at the line.

Grayson said: “I came here quite confident as he wasn’t beaten far at Ayr and everyone had written him off.

“I am over the moon as this is my biggest win so far and I’ll have to take stock before deciding where to go next.”

Stan James introduced Atlantic Sport (5-2) into the 2000 Guineas market at 25-1 after Mick Channon’s colt produced a battling display on his debut to see off Skadrak in the Owen Brown EBF Crocker Bulteel Maiden Stakes.

Channon said: “He is a big horse and we have bided our time.

“We have always thought a lot of him at home and he is from a good family; we won’t be hanging about with him.”
