Ms Dynamite was the surprise winner of the Mercury Music Prize despite widespread expectation The Streets would win.
Other nominations for the prestigious award had included David Bowie and Ireland's Gemma Hayes for her album Night on My Side.
The 21-year-old from north London also beat The Coral and The Doves to win the prize for her garage album A Little Deeper.
She has had chart success with the single It Takes More.
The star, whose real name is Naomi McLean-Daley, picked up her prize from saxophonist and prize judge Courtney Pine.
She said: "I really don't know what to say. I've never been speechless. Oh my goodness."
